Interferometry of non-Abelian Anyons

چکیده
We develop the general quantum measurement theory of non-Abelian anyons through interference experiments. The paper starts with a terse introduction to the theory of anyon models, focusing on the basic formalism necessary to apply standard quantum measurement theory to such systems. This is then applied to give a detailed analysis of anyonic charge measurements using a Mach-Zehnder interferometer for arbitrary anyon models. We find that, as anyonic probes are sent through the legs of the interferometer, superpositions of the total anyonic charge located in the target region collapse when they are distinguishable via monodromy with the probe anyons, which also determines the rate of collapse. We give estimates on the number of probes needed to obtain a desired confidence level for the measurement outcome distinguishing between charges, and explicitly work out a number of examples for some significant anyon models. We apply the same techniques to describe interferometry measurements in a double point-contact interferometer realized in fractional quantum Hall systems. To lowest order in tunneling, these results essentially match those from the Mach-Zehnder interferometer, but we also provide the corrections due to processes involving multiple tunnelings. Finally, we give explicit predictions describing state measurements for experiments in the Abelian hierarchy states, the non-Abelian MooreRead state at ν = 5/2 and Read-Rezayi state at ν = 12/5.

Non-Abelian anyonic interferometry with a multi-photon spin lattice simulator
Recently a pair of experiments [1, 2] demonstrated a simulation of Abelian anyons in a spin network of single photons. The experiments were based on an Abelian discrete gauge theory spin lattice model of Kitaev [3]. Here we describe how to use linear optics and single photons to simulate non-Abelian anyons. The scheme makes use of joint qutrit-qubit encoding of the spins and the resources requi...

A pairwise correlation function in relative momentum space is discussed as a tool to characterize the properties of an incoherent source of noninteracting Abelian anyons. This is analogous to the Hanbury-Brown Twiss effect for particles with fractional statistics in two dimensions. In particular, using a flux tube model for anyons, the effects of source shape and quantum statistics on a two-par...
متن کاملDecoherence of anyonic charge in interferometry measurements.
We examine interferometric measurements of the topological charge of (non-Abelian) anyons. The target's topological charge is measured from its effect on the interference of probe particles sent through the interferometer. We find that superpositions of distinct anyonic charges a and a' in the target decohere (exponentially in the number of probes particles used) when the probes have nontrivial...
متن کاملNon-Abelian anyons: when Ising meets Fibonacci.
We consider an interface between two non-Abelian quantum Hall states: the Moore-Read state, supporting Ising anyons, and the k=2 non-Abelian spin-singlet state, supporting Fibonacci anyons. It is shown that the interface supports neutral excitations described by a (1+1)-dimensional conformal field theory with a central charge c=7/10. We discuss effects of the mismatch of the quantum statistical...
متن کاملOn Quantum Descriptions of (non-)abelian Anyons
We elaborate on both eld-theoretic and quantum mechanical descriptions of (non-)Abelian anyons, emphasizing the role of contact interaction terms. Field theoretic contact terms, required for the sake of renormalizability in general, implement the self-adjoint extension of the quantum mechanical Hamiltonian. Condensed matter physics in the world of two spatial dimensions is a rich eld, with many...
